Abstract
Santacruzan is a festivity to commemorate Queen Helena’s Search for the Holy Cross. It is a mixture of beauty pageant and procession but is different from the former two. The film Santacruzan reenacts the journey of woman from pain and loss towards happiness and conviction. The ’santacruzan’ itself is a journey of a young woman wearing a beautiful gown with their incomparable display of grace and confidence.
The thesis entitled Santacruzan is a 20-minutes experimental film shot on digital video using P2 technology. The film illustrates a night in a life of a single mother who works a club dancer to make a living for her, her mother and her young daughter. The film explores the ability of a woman in the process of becoming- complex, enigmatic and beautiful. She with pain loss, yet committed to dealing with such hardship in life with courage, love and grace.
